Feeling Fine After A Car Crash? You Should Still See A Doctor

Do you feel just fine after being involved in a car crash? Even if you feel that you haven't suffered significant injuries, you should still go to the doctor. This may sound strange at first if you feel fine. But there are a few good reasons why this appointment is important.

1. Some injuries don't cause symptoms right away.

You think you feel fine, but you may not be. Some injuries do not cause symptoms right away, especially when the adrenaline is coursing through your veins after a car crash. Adrenaline has a numbing effect. This was really beneficial to early human beings, even after some degree of injury. Unfortunately, these days, it means that some car crash injuries go untreated until they get worse. Kidney damage is a common example. You may not feel it now, but if your kidneys are bruised, you may develop back pain and see blood in your urine later on. Your doctor can look you over and take some x-rays to detect injuries that you may not feel yet.

2. You may need insurance documentation if something comes up later.

If you do not go to the doctor right away, and you do notice that something is wrong later on, you may have a hard time convincing your car insurance company that the injury is related to the accident. This can lead to trouble with getting your medical costs covered. On the other hand, if you go to the doctor right away, there will be a closer, more direct connection between the accident and your injuries, which should be all the proof the insurance company needs.

3. You may get free supplies to care for minor injuries.

Do you have any minor injuries like scrapes or bruises? You may, indeed, be able to manage these at home. However, if you need any supplies, like ice packs and bandages, you will have to buy them. If you instead go to a doctor after the crash, they will likely send you home with the items you need to care for your minor injuries. The cost will be covered by your insurance company as a part of the case.

It's always a good thing to feel fine after a car accident. However, that does not mean you shouldn't see the doctor. There are some very good reasons to seek care even if you don't believe yourself to be badly injured. A car accident doctor can verify that you're truly uninjured.
